Crenshaw's Playful Jab at Referees After GOP Soccer Victory

Created: JANUARY 20, 2025

Following the Republican team's 4-2 triumph over the Democrats in the 9th Annual Congressional Soccer Match held at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., Texas Republican Representative Dan Crenshaw injected some humor into the post-game celebrations. A video captured by PunchBowl News shows Crenshaw playfully ribbing the referees about their calls during the match.

As his teammates looked on with a mixture of amusement and mock disapproval, Crenshaw quipped, "This is for the refs," as he appeared to drop his glass eye into the trophy. This lighthearted gesture was a reference to his belief that some of the officiating calls had been questionable.

The Congressional Soccer Match, co-hosted by the Congressional Soccer Caucus and the U.S. Soccer Foundation, is an annual event that raises funds to support youth programs promoting healthy and active lifestyles in underserved communities.

Earlier in the match, with Republicans leading 2-1 at halftime, Crenshaw was recorded saying, "The refs have two eyeballs, but they don’t use them, so I’m just going to give them one of mine." This witty remark, combined with his post-game gesture, added a memorable touch to the GOP's victory.
