After being lost for over six weeks in the Canadian wilderness, 20-year-old hiker Sam Benastick has been found alive and safe. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed his discovery on Tuesday, November 26th, bringing relief to his family who reported him missing on October 19th.

Benastick's family became concerned when he failed to return from a 10-day solo camping trip, which began on October 7th. The challenging winter conditions, with temperatures dropping to a frigid 4 degrees Fahrenheit, added to their worries.

Benastick's survival story took a fortunate turn when two individuals en route to the Redfern Lake Trail for work spotted him. He was using walking sticks for support and a modified sleeping bag to protect his legs from the cold. The rescuers promptly transported him to a hospital, where authorities confirmed his identity.

Benastick recounted his ordeal to the police, explaining that he initially sheltered in his car before venturing to a creek and the mountainside for 10 to 15 days. He then descended into the valley, establishing a makeshift camp and shelter within a dry creek bed. It was from this location that he eventually managed to signal for help.

RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson expressed immense relief at Benastick's survival, highlighting the collaborative efforts of multiple jurisdictions, Canadian Rangers, and volunteers with invaluable backcountry expertise. She emphasized the significant resources dedicated to the search and expressed gratitude for the positive resolution.

Benastick's sister initiated a GoFundMe campaign following his disappearance to cover the search expenses.
