Actor Anthony Mackie, taking on the mantle of Captain America in the upcoming film "Captain America: Brave New World," has addressed recent remarks about the character's representation. Mackie clarified his stance in a statement shared on Instagram, emphasizing his pride in being an American and the profound honor of portraying such an iconic hero. He underscored Captain America's universal appeal, highlighting characteristics that resonate with people globally.

Mackie's earlier comments, made during a promotional press tour in Rome, suggested that the character shouldn't solely embody America. He elaborated on this perspective, stating that Captain America represents a range of ideals, including keeping one's word, honor, dignity, integrity, trustworthiness, and dependability. These qualities, he argued, transcend national boundaries.

Mackie's portrayal of Sam Wilson, also known as Falcon, has been a key part of the Captain America narrative. "Captain America: Brave New World" is slated for theatrical release on February 14, 2025. At the time of reporting, Disney, the parent company of Marvel Studios, had not responded to requests for comment.
