Musician Brian Setzer, renowned for his work with the Stray Cats and the Brian Setzer Orchestra, recently announced he's facing a health challenge. He shared on Instagram that he's been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that's currently preventing him from playing the guitar.
Setzer explained that he first noticed problems with his hands cramping during the latter part of the Stray Cats' most recent tour. While he doesn't experience pain, he described the sensation as feeling like he's wearing gloves when attempting to play. He indicated that he's seen some improvement, regaining the ability to perform simple tasks like tying his shoes and holding a pen, activities he was previously unable to do.

The guitarist expressed gratitude for the Mayo Clinic, which is located near his home, for their assistance in his treatment. He remains optimistic about his recovery, stating that while it will require time, he's confident he will overcome the illness.

Setzer, 65, initially gained prominence in the 1980s with the Stray Cats, known for their revival of 1950s rockabilly music. Hits like "Stray Cat Strut" and "Rock This Town" from their self-titled debut album propelled them to success. Following the band's breakup in 1984, Setzer embarked on a solo career and later formed the 17-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra in the 1990s. The orchestra achieved Grammy-winning success with their renditions of "Jump, Jive an’ Wail" and "Sleep Walk." Setzer's music has also been featured in films, including a swing version of "The Nutcracker Suite" performed by his orchestra in the movie "Elf."

Setzer has remained active in his career, touring regularly and releasing his latest solo album, "The Devil Always Collects," in 2023. He recently completed a series of shows last summer.
