Nevada Governor's Ethics Hearing Postponed

Created: JANUARY 22, 2025

A hearing concerning potential ethics violations by Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has been delayed until July 25th. The hearing, originally scheduled for this week, will address allegations related to Lombardo's use of his sheriff's badge and uniform in campaign materials during his 2022 gubernatorial run. Lombardo, the former sheriff of Clark County, faces a substantial penalty of nearly $1.7 million and possible censure. The Nevada Commission on Ethics, responsible for upholding state ethics laws, will convene to review the proposed sanctions. The postponement comes at the request of Governor Lombardo after two commission members expressed their inability to attend the originally scheduled hearing in person.

The case revolves around the use of four specific images disseminated on social media throughout Lombardo's campaign. His legal team has contested the proposed penalties, describing them as excessive and unprecedented. The Commission on Ethics alleges 68 violations and has recommended assigning an ethics compliance liaison to the Governor's office, citing concerns about potential misuse of his public position.
