Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare's CEO, has enlisted the services of Craig Rothfeld, a prison consultant previously employed by Harvey Weinstein. Rothfeld, whose background includes finance and a prison sentence for fraud, now assists white-collar defendants navigating the complexities of incarceration. His firm, Inside Outside Ltd, acknowledges Mangione's case on its website. Rothfeld declined to comment, directing inquiries to Mangione's legal team, who also remained silent.
Mangione is accused of meticulously plotting the December 4th assassination of Brian Thompson, the UnitedHealthcare CEO, near a scheduled investor conference in New York City. Following a five-day pursuit, Mangione was apprehended in Pennsylvania, possessing the suspected murder weapon—a firearm with a 3D-printed component—and a counterfeit identification document. He faces serious charges, including first-degree murder connected to terrorism and stalking murder, and is currently detained without bail.
Rothfeld's expertise extends to guiding defendants through various legal stages, from indictment to sentencing, and collaborating with defense lawyers on court documents and support letters. His past involvement with Weinstein, a disgraced Hollywood producer convicted of sex crimes, adds another layer of intrigue to this high-profile case.
Weinstein's legal battles continue as he awaits a retrial after a previous conviction was overturned, faces further charges in Los Angeles, and legal proceedings in London.
