As the 2024 presidential election draws closer, the field of candidates continues to expand, with both Republicans and Democrats vying for the top spot. Fox News recently spoke with voters in New York City to gauge their opinions on the potential contenders.
With the first Republican primary debate just around the corner, New Yorkers offered a glimpse into their current preferences. One voter, visiting from North Carolina, expressed hope for a strong alternative to President Biden.

While some voters, like one individual named "Verdena," remain undecided, others have strong opinions about who they *won't* support. Verdena explicitly stated she would not vote for Trump.

With fourteen candidates now in the running, voters have a wide range of options to consider. Current polls suggest a tight race between President Biden and former President Trump if they were to face off in the general election, with Trump holding a slight edge. Among Democrats, Biden maintains a significant lead, while Trump also holds a commanding lead over other Republican contenders.
The current field includes eleven Republicans and three Democrats. One New York resident, "Susan," expressed a preference for a moderate candidate from either party. As an independent voter, she indicated she doesn't adhere strictly to party lines, but would likely support Biden over Trump if those were the only choices.

President Biden's approval ratings have recently dipped, potentially impacting his reelection prospects. Meanwhile, "Truman," a voter from South Carolina, affirmed his support for whichever Republican candidate emerges from the primaries. Others, like New York resident "Matt" and Nebraska resident "Richard," remain undecided, with Matt echoing the sentiment that a viable alternative to Biden is needed.
