On a scorching 111-degree day in Las Vegas, a woman was arrested after two of her nine dogs perished from heatstroke while left inside two vehicles. 47-year-old Katrina Brazil now faces nine counts of animal cruelty, according to FOX 5 Las Vegas. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers responded to a Motel 6 after receiving reports of a woman with several dogs in distress, along with two deceased pit bulls, one a puppy. Officers promptly moved the surviving animals to an air-conditioned space and provided water until Animal Protection Services arrived.

Witness accounts detailed in the police report obtained by FOX 5 paint a troubling picture. One witness observed Brazil attempting to revive the animals, including placing the deceased puppy in ice water. Another witness reported seeing the dogs in a running vehicle and questioning Brazil about the air conditioning, to which she reportedly did not respond.

Brazil admitted ownership of the dogs, stating her boyfriend bred them. She explained she had been evicted two days prior and her boyfriend was arrested that same night, leading her to place four dogs in his truck and five in her own vehicle for approximately 30 minutes. While Brazil claimed both vehicles were running with the air conditioning on, police found no water for the dogs.

An autopsy confirmed the older dog, Cash, died from heatstroke. Brazil reportedly did not know the puppy's name. Following a court hearing, Brazil was released with the condition she cannot possess or have contact with animals.
