San Antonio Spurs teammates Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul were disqualified from the NBA All-Star Skills Challenge on Saturday night after attempting a time-saving, but ultimately illegal, strategy. The duo, participating in the event which tests players on various basketball skills like passing and shooting, decided to simply toss the ball towards the hoop during the shooting portion of the competition.

Their unconventional approach, while clocking in at a leading 47.9 seconds, was deemed invalid by officials, resulting in their disqualification. Wembanyama, the second-year 7-foot-3 phenom, admitted to devising the plan, stating he had no regrets and believed it was a good idea. Paul echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the fun aspect of their attempt.

Golden State Warrior Draymond Green, who competed alongside teammate Moses Moody, revealed that Wembanyama had sought advice from other participants about the number of shot attempts allowed. Green suggested that while Wembanyama did inquire, he may not have received clarification from the appropriate sources. Ultimately, the Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley emerged victorious in the competition. Mobley admitted to entertaining a similar strategy, but it was the Spurs duo who garnered attention for their audacious, albeit unsuccessful, tactic.
