Jaguars Sign Wolford After Lawrence's Concussion; Al-Shaair Suspended

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Following a significant injury to their starting quarterback, the Jacksonville Jaguars have bolstered their quarterback depth by adding a Super Bowl-winning veteran. Trevor Lawrence was concussed after a hard hit from Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair during their recent game. Al-Shaair has subsequently been handed a three-game suspension for the illegal hit. Lawrence's availability for the upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans remains uncertain as he navigates concussion protocols and manages a pre-existing AC joint sprain.

John Wolford with the Rams

To address the potential quarterback shortage, the Jaguars signed John Wolford to their practice squad. Wolford, who was part of the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl LVI championship team, could serve as the backup to Mac Jones if Lawrence is unable to play. Over his career, Wolford has appeared in seven games, starting four, and has a 2-2 record as a starter. He's thrown for 626 yards and one touchdown.

John Wolford with the Bucs

Wolford entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2018 before joining the Rams in 2019. He later signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023 but was released before the start of the 2024 season. C.J. Beathard is also currently on the Jaguars' quarterback roster.
