Los Angeles police briefly detained two individuals near Vice President Kamala Harris' Brentwood residence early Sunday morning. The incident occurred within the Palisades Fire evacuation zone, under a mandatory curfew. According to KTLA, officers responded to a potential burglary call around 4:40 a.m. The two men were reportedly found in the vicinity but not on Harris' property, and were initially held for violating the curfew. They were later released without charges, as no evidence of criminal activity was found.
KNBC reported that the detained individuals were likely unaware of their location and had not trespassed onto the Vice President's property. The residence is protected by the U.S. Secret Service, supported by the California Highway Patrol and the LAPD. The Palisades Fire continues to threaten the Brentwood area, exacerbated by strong winds. As of Sunday morning, the fire was 11% contained, having consumed over 23,700 acres. Tragically, the death toll from the California wildfires has risen to 16, with five fatalities attributed to the Palisades Fire.
