A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday near a sewage treatment plant in northern India, claiming the lives of fifteen individuals, including six police officers. The fatalities were a result of electrocution following a transformer explosion adjacent to the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand state's Chamoli district. Several others sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion, with Uttarakhand's Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, ordering a thorough inquiry. This catastrophe comes amidst heightened water levels in northern India's rivers due to substantial monsoon rains, which have tragically caused over 100 deaths in recent weeks. This incident follows another electrocution tragedy in southern India in April, where eleven people lost their lives when their truck came into contact with an overhead power line during a Hindu festival procession.
