Sixteen-year-old Swiss midfielder Iman Beney's World Cup dreams have been dashed by a devastating knee injury. Just a day after being named to the Swiss national team for the upcoming Women's World Cup, Beney suffered a torn ACL during a training session, ruling her out of the tournament. This unfortunate incident adds her to the growing list of prominent female soccer players sidelined by ACL injuries.

Beney, who plays for the Swiss club Young Boys, was injured during a tackle in the team's final training session before their warm-up match against Morocco. Both Switzerland and Morocco are set to compete in the World Cup, hosted by Australia and New Zealand, from July 20th to August 20th.

The young midfielder had made a strong impression in her international debut just days earlier, contributing to a 3-3 draw against fellow World Cup participant Zambia. Swiss coach Inka Grings has selected 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen forward Amira Arfaoui as Beney's replacement.

Switzerland is placed in Group A for the World Cup, alongside the Philippines, Norway, and New Zealand.
