In the early hours of Friday morning, a rabid bobcat attacked three camp counselors at Selden Neck State Park in Lyme, Connecticut. The Deep River Fire Department reported the incident, which occurred around 2:00 a.m. during a program called Wilderness School. This program provides foster children with multi-day outdoor adventures.

One counselor was sleeping in a hammock when the attack occurred, according to a statement by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to FOX 61. Following the attack, the adults involved managed to kill the bobcat. Three adults and nine minors were transported to the Deep River town landing after the incident. Thankfully, none of the children participating in the program were injured.

Scott Basile, a program supervisor, emphasized that counselors undergo training for such situations. "We’re out in the woods, we discuss various potential scenarios and hazards. Our instructors are all certified wilderness first responders," Basile stated.

Subsequent testing at a State Public Health laboratory confirmed that the bobcat was positive for rabies, as reported by the New York Times.
