A tragic discovery unfolded in Oregon as the body of 61-year-old hiker Susan Lane-Fournier was found, along with her two dogs, in the Mt. Hood area. Her estranged husband, 71-year-old Michel Fournier, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with her death.
Lane-Fournier was initially reported missing on November 22nd after she failed to appear for work. Her vehicle, a white 1992 Ford F-250, was located near a trailhead south of Welches, prompting a multi-agency search effort. This search was temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions and concerns about survivability.
The discovery of Lane-Fournier's body occurred on Friday, near a property she co-owned with her estranged husband in Brightwood. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide following an autopsy. Two deceased dogs, believed to be Lane-Fournier's companions on the hike, were also recovered.
Court documents reveal that Lane-Fournier had filed for divorce from Michel Fournier just two weeks prior to her disappearance. A coworker of the deceased shared with local news that Lane-Fournier had expressed fears for her safety in the weeks leading up to the tragic event, and had been consistently accompanied by her dogs due to these concerns.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information regarding Michel Fournier’s activities or whereabouts in the days before and after Susan Lane-Fournier’s disappearance to contact them.
