Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles has introduced a constitutional amendment that could potentially pave the way for former President Donald Trump to serve a third term in office. The proposed amendment would modify the existing two-term limit established by the 22nd Amendment, allowing a president to serve three terms, but with a restriction of no more than two consecutive terms.
Specifically, the amendment states that no individual can be elected president more than three times. Additionally, it bars anyone elected to two consecutive terms from seeking an additional term. Furthermore, anyone who has served as president, or acting president, for over two years of another president's term, would be limited to two presidential elections.

The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951 following Franklin D. Roosevelt's four presidential victories, currently prohibits anyone from holding the office for more than two terms.

In a statement, Ogles argued that Trump possesses unique qualities to address the nation's challenges and requires more time to achieve his goals. He believes the amendment would provide the necessary time for Trump to implement his vision for the country.
While Trump has previously alluded to a third term, sources suggest these comments were made in jest. This recent proposal by Ogles follows his earlier "Make Greenland Great Again Act," which sought to authorize negotiations with Denmark for the purchase of Greenland, following Trump's expressed interest in the territory.
Ogles has been a vocal supporter of Trump's policies, emphasizing the importance of putting "America First" and suggesting that a Trump presidency would prioritize American economic and security interests.
