An autopsy report released by the New Hampshire attorney general's office has concluded that the death of Nathan Carman, a 29-year-old inmate awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his mother, was not suspicious. Carman was scheduled to face trial in October for a scheme to inherit millions of dollars, involving the death of his mother, Linda Carman, during a 2016 fishing trip.

Carman was found dead in his New Hampshire jail cell on June 15, 2024. While the specific cause and manner of death have not been publicly disclosed by authorities at the request of the family, the attorney general's office confirmed that no foul play is suspected. The U.S. Marshals Service has also honored the family's request for privacy regarding the cause of death. A death is deemed “not suspicious” when there's no evidence of criminal activity or third-party involvement.

Prosecutors alleged that Carman orchestrated his mother's death by sabotaging their boat during the fishing trip. Carman was rescued eight days later, but his mother's body was never found. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. The indictment also alleged that Carman was connected to the 2013 death of his grandfather, John Chakalos, though he was never formally charged in that case. Carman maintained his innocence in both deaths. His legal team previously criticized the inclusion of the grandfather's death in the indictment, emphasizing the lack of charges related to that incident.
