Commissioner Jessica Tisch assured the public that while no specific threats exist, the department remains vigilant, especially following the anniversary of the 2023 attacks in Israel and subsequent demonstrations in the city. This increased security posture will be evident through a robust police presence, including specialized units like the Emergency Services Unit, K-9 teams, and aerial surveillance via helicopters and an expanded drone fleet.

This year's security deployment will feature six drone teams strategically positioned within and around Times Square, along with mobile units throughout Manhattan. This enhanced aerial surveillance follows last year's successful drone integration and aims to provide real-time crowd monitoring and threat detection. Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry highlighted the comprehensive surveillance strategy, extending to waterways and surrounding areas.

Addressing recent global events, such as the Christmas market attack in Germany, Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism Rebecca Weiner emphasized that the NYPD's security protocols are continuously adapted to address emerging threats. She underscored the vulnerability of large gatherings and highlighted measures to prevent vehicle attacks, assuring the public of a safe and enjoyable celebration. The NYPD's comprehensive approach considers both domestic and international incidents to inform its security strategies.

Beyond terrorism concerns, the NYPD is also addressing other potential threats. Weiner mentioned ongoing efforts to combat the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA), emphasizing the department's proactive approach to emerging crime patterns. Specialized teams will be deployed to deter pickpocketing and monitor hotels for suspicious activities.
