A Houston mother is facing child endangerment charges after she and her two young children were discovered lying on a sidewalk in freezing temperatures Tuesday morning. Harris County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call around 6:40 a.m. reporting a woman and children on the ground amidst historic snowfall. The caller indicated the three were on a sidewalk near 12062 Veterans Memorial Drive.
Upon arrival, deputies found the woman with her 1-year-old and 2-month-old. Both infants were suffering from cold-related injuries and received immediate medical attention. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated the mother exhibited signs of intoxication. News reports suggest an open container of alcohol was found nearby, and the mother may have fallen asleep outside. Temperatures at the time were reportedly around 28 degrees Fahrenheit, with snow accumulation on the ground.
