Moms for Liberty Reports Surge in Threats After SPLC 'Hate Group' Label

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

Following their classification as a "hate and anti-government" organization by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), alongside groups like the Ku Klux Klan, Moms for Liberty has experienced a significant rise in death threats and hateful messages. The SPLC's "Year In Hate and Extremism 2022" report, published in June, included Moms for Liberty among over a thousand other groups labeled "extremist." The report accuses the parental rights nonprofit of disrupting school board meetings and obstructing normal proceedings.

Moms for Liberty informed the Daily Signal that this labeling has led to a wave of threats and hateful communications. They believe the SPLC is intentionally targeting mothers who advocate for their children's education and that this designation encourages dehumanization. Examples of messages received by the group, as reported by the Daily Signal, include violent threats and calls for the removal of children from their families.

The organization's co-founders have confirmed that they are forwarding these threats to law enforcement. Moms for Liberty has faced consistent criticism from the left, particularly for their opposition to critical race theory and mask mandates in schools.

The group's co-founders, Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich, responded to the SPLC's listing by emphasizing their belief in parental rights in education and asserting that such labels will not deter their efforts. Fox News Digital has contacted the SPLC for comment.
