Following a crushing 3-0 defeat against the United States, the Mexican Soccer Federation announced on Monday the dismissal of their head coach, Diego Cocca. Jaime Lozano, who previously led the Mexican national team to a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, will step in as his replacement.

Cocca's brief tenure, which began in February, saw the team achieve 3 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss. However, his leadership was under scrutiny, culminating in the devastating loss to the US in the Nations Cup semi-finals. Mexican Soccer Federation head, Juan Carlos Rodríguez, stated that while losing is a part of the game, the manner of the defeat was unacceptable, citing logistical issues that negatively impacted the team's cohesion. Player complaints regarding lengthy travel times to practice sessions before the Las Vegas match further fueled the discontent.

While Mexico secured a 1-0 victory against Panama to claim third place in the Nations Cup, the damage was done. The typically fervent Mexican fan base seemed to have lost faith, as evidenced by the half-empty stadium. This coaching change comes after Mexico's disappointing first-round exit in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, their worst performance since 1978.
