A Reynosa city councilor was apprehended at a Texas border checkpoint after U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered approximately 93 pounds of cocaine concealed within her vehicle. Denisse Ahumada, who was listed as a member of the Reynosa city council as of Wednesday, was taken into custody on June 10th at a Falfurrias checkpoint. An X-ray inspection of her SUV revealed irregularities in the door panels and seats, leading to the discovery of 42 foil-wrapped packages, each containing roughly one kilogram of cocaine.

According to prosecutors, Ahumada stated her intention was to deliver the narcotics to San Antonio and admitted to previous involvement in similar drug trafficking activities. She is currently facing charges of possession with intent to distribute in the U.S. District Court for Southern Texas and has not responded to requests for comment.

While local media outlets reported Ahumada's affiliation with the National Action Party (PAN), the party's Tamaulipas branch issued a statement denying her membership or support, condemning drug trafficking and clarifying her previous association with the Green Party. Party leader Luis René Cantú explained Ahumada had sought to join PAN after running for office under the Green Party banner but subsequently lost contact.

Reynosa, situated across the border from McAllen, Texas, has a history of cartel-related violence, predominantly controlled by factions of the Gulf Cartel.
