Maryland State Police Sergeant Accused of Child Pornography Possession

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

A long-serving member of the Maryland State Police, Sergeant Christopher Black Sr., has been arrested and charged with possessing child pornography. The 48-year-old officer, stationed at the North East Barrack in Cecil County, faces six counts related to this offense.

The investigation began on April 6, 2023, when the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding an online user who had uploaded a potentially illicit image. This user was subsequently identified as Sergeant Black, a 21-and-a-half-year veteran of the force.

Following the tip, the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at Black's Elkton residence. A personal computer was seized for forensic analysis, which allegedly uncovered evidence of child pornography.

After consulting with the Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office, an arrest warrant was issued for Black. He was apprehended on Friday without incident, processed at the North East Barrack, and presented before a District Court commissioner. While Black's police powers have been suspended, he will continue to receive his salary pending the investigation's conclusion.
