Super Bowl champion quarterback Patrick Mahomes showcased his defensive skills, intercepting tight end Travis Kelce's attempt at an impromptu speech during the Kansas City Chiefs' White House visit.
On the "New Heights" podcast, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce recounted his brother's attempt to seize the presidential podium. Travis Kelce's plan, as revealed by his brother, was to distract President Biden and make an unscheduled address.

The incident occurred after a photo opportunity with President Biden and Mahomes. As a White House staffer directed the group towards a group photo, Kelce made his move towards the podium. Mahomes, however, quickly recognized his teammate's intentions and intervened, preventing Kelce from reaching the podium.

Jason Kelce praised Mahomes' quick thinking, suggesting that Mahomes recognized Kelce's "flanking maneuver." Travis Kelce himself admitted that Mahomes saved him from potential embarrassment. He revealed his planned opening line: "To my fellow Americans…" Jason Kelce playfully remarked that such an opening would have captivated the audience.

This White House visit marked the Chiefs' first since their Super Bowl LIV victory in 2020. The original visit was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
