Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for what the league deemed an "inappropriate gesture" during a recent game against the Detroit Pistons. Following a powerful dunk over Pistons player Isaiah Stewart, Brown made a throat-slashing motion directed at Stewart. The incident occurred during Boston's 130-120 victory on Wednesday.

Brown acknowledged after the game that he anticipated repercussions from the league for his actions. This fine marks the second instance this NBA season of a player being penalized for an obscene gesture. Earlier this season, Anthony Edwards received a $35,000 fine for displaying his middle finger.

Last year saw several players fined for various gestures, including a notable $100,000 penalty for Rudy Gobert after he appeared to suggest that referees had a financial stake in a game. In the game against Detroit, Brown delivered a strong performance, scoring 28 points and contributing nine assists. Kristaps Porzingis also played a key role, adding 26 points and nine rebounds to help secure the Celtics' ninth win in their last ten games. Boston maintained a comfortable double-digit lead for most of the match until the fourth quarter when Detroit mounted a comeback, hitting four consecutive three-pointers to narrow the gap to eight points. This surge prompted Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla to bring Brown back into the game. Although the Pistons managed to reduce the deficit to just five points in the final minute thanks to a Tobias Harris three-pointer, Payton Pritchard sealed the victory for Boston with a late three-pointer of his own.
