A homicide investigation is underway at the North Branch Correctional Institution, a maximum-security prison in Cumberland, Maryland, following the discovery of an inmate's body within his cell. Robert Warren, 28, was found deceased on Monday, November 25th. Maryland State Police have identified a suspect, also an inmate at the facility, but no charges have been filed yet and the suspect's identity remains undisclosed.

Emergency medical personnel declared Warren dead at the scene, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner subsequently ruled his death a homicide. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is working in conjunction with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit to gather evidence. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.

This incident follows another serious event at the same facility earlier this month. On November 8th, two correctional officers were stabbed by an inmate. While their injuries were significant, they were not considered life-threatening. The suspect in that incident was apprehended and is currently under investigation.
