Indiana Fever Bolsters Roster Around Caitlin Clark for 2025 WNBA Title Run

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

The Indiana Fever significantly upgraded their roster during the offseason, surrounding rising star Caitlin Clark with veteran talent in hopes of contending for a WNBA championship in 2025. The team re-signed Kelsey Mitchell, acquired Sophie Cunningham from the Phoenix Mercury, and added key players like Natasha Howard, DeWanna Bonner, and Sydney Colson. These strategic moves position the Fever as a potential dark horse in a league landscape shifted by the Las Vegas Aces' trade of Kelsey Plum to the Los Angeles Sparks.

Clark expressed enthusiasm about the additions, particularly the opportunity to play alongside veteran DeWanna Bonner. "Getting to work out with DB has been great," Clark remarked at Bonner’s introductory press conference, according to CBS Sports. "As players return from overseas leagues, it will be exciting to see how the pieces fit together. We'll have a lot of options and different ways to approach the game, which is incredibly promising."

The Fever's core of Clark, Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston already shone brightly in 2024. Clark earned Rookie of the Year honors and received MVP consideration, Mitchell secured her second consecutive All-Star selection, and Boston continued her upward trajectory after a strong rookie campaign, also making the All-Star team. The addition of experienced playoff performers and coach Stephanie White, who led the Connecticut Sun to at least 27 wins in the past two seasons, further strengthens Indiana's championship aspirations.

Bonner, a six-time All-Star and two-time WNBA champion, brings a wealth of experience and a competitive fire. Her on-court spat with Clark during last season's playoffs highlighted her intensity. "It was just two competitive players wanting to win," Bonner reflected, as reported by the Indy Star. "Playoff emotions run high." She emphasized that she and Clark have since worked out together and are building a strong rapport. "I'm here to offer leadership and guidance," Bonner stated. "Caitlin is already a remarkable player, and I'm excited to contribute and help elevate her game."

With these additions, expectations are high for Clark and the Fever in the upcoming season.
