Legendary golfer Tiger Woods shared the news of his mother, Kultida Woods' passing on Tuesday. She was 78 years old. Woods posted the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), including a heartfelt statement and a photo of his mother. He requested privacy for himself and his family during this time of grief.

In his statement, Woods described his mother as a powerful and spirited woman, whose unwavering support was instrumental in his achievements. He emphasized her love for her grandchildren and expressed gratitude for the support and prayers received.

Kultida Woods was of Thai, Chinese, and Dutch descent. She met Earl Woods, Tiger's father, while he was serving in the military in Thailand. The couple later moved to Brooklyn, New York, and then to Cypress, California, where Tiger was born. Tiger's given name, Eldrick, was a tribute to both parents, starting with "E" for Earl and ending with "K" for Kultida. His nickname, "Tiger," was given in honor of Earl's comrade in Vietnam.
