Ex-Oregon Ducks wide receiver Ryan Pellum, whose legal name is Ryan Tristan Chance Taylor, was taken into custody in Springfield, Oregon on Friday, January 10, 2025. The arrest stems from an alleged assault involving a firearm that occurred in Long Beach, California on Christmas Day. Pellum is accused of striking an individual with a 9mm pistol, an incident that reportedly required the victim to receive stitches. He is also accused of discharging the firearm during the altercation.

During the arrest, Pellum reportedly acknowledged his awareness of the outstanding warrant. The University of Oregon declined to comment on the situation, citing Pellum's separation from the football program.
Pellum, a highly touted four-star recruit from Long Beach Millikan High School, gained attention in 2023 for his unique college commitment announcement involving his infant son. Initially committing to USC, he later switched his pledge to Oregon. He participated in four games for the Ducks in 2024, primarily on special teams, recording one punt return before entering the transfer portal. Pellum is the nephew of former Oregon linebacker and defensive coordinator Don Pellum, and chose to use his family name for his football career.
