A Florida resident, 23-year-old Austin Alexander Smith, faces burglary charges after allegedly breaking into a Winter Haven home while under the influence of methamphetamine. Homeowners were startled awake in the early morning hours by a loud crash at their front door. They then discovered Smith in their living room, clad only in a shirt, clutching their carpet cleaner.

Startled by the residents' shouts, Smith dropped the cleaning appliance and fled. Police apprehended a man matching his description shortly after in the vicinity. The resident positively identified Smith as the intruder. Smith reportedly admitted to using methamphetamine and claimed to have no memory of the incident. He allegedly forced entry into the residence by kicking down the door. Smith is currently held in Polk County Jail.
