Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

President Biden's approval rating has reached a new low just one month before leaving office, according to a recent Marquette Law School national poll. Conducted between December 2nd and 11th, the poll reveals a 34% approval rating for Biden, contrasted with a 66% disapproval rating. This marks a four-point drop since October and represents the lowest approval rating Biden has received in Marquette's polling since his inauguration.

Other national surveys reflect similar trends, placing Biden's approval in the mid-30s to low 40s. This includes the latest Fox News national poll, which shows Biden at a 41% approval rating.

Biden's approval rating, which initially hovered in the low to mid-50s during his first six months, began to decline in August 2021. Several factors contributed to this downturn, including criticism of his handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, a surge in COVID-19 cases, rising inflation, and the influx of migrants at the southern border.

In contrast, former President and President-elect Donald Trump concluded his first term with a 47% approval rating, based on Fox News polling from four years ago. The latest Marquette survey indicates a 53% approval rating for Trump's first term performance, a three-point increase from October. This represents Trump's highest approval rating since March, when Marquette began tracking retrospective approval.

Public opinion on Trump's second-term cabinet appointments appears divided, with the Marquette survey showing 49% approval and 51% disapproval. A recent Fox News poll echoed this sentiment, revealing 47% approval and 50% disapproval of Trump's cabinet selections.

Trump's favorability rating stands at 49% favorable and 50% unfavorable in the Marquette survey, his highest since leaving office. Meanwhile, Biden's favorability rating is significantly lower at 37% favorable and 62% unfavorable.
