The eagle was kept safe and warm at the station, enjoying a meal of salmon and steak. Representatives from the Alaska Fish & Game and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service assessed the bird’s health. After a thorough check-up, the eagle was deemed fit for release.
The Fairbanks Airport Police shared a video of the eagle's triumphant return to its natural habitat, describing the release as the "best ending ever." While the department jokingly expressed a desire to keep the eagle as their mascot, they recognized the importance of allowing the bird to thrive in the wild. The anonymous resident who initially reported the eagle's plight was commended for their compassion and quick thinking.
This rescue comes shortly after President Biden signed a bill formally designating the bald eagle as the national bird, solidifying its symbolic status as a representation of American strength and freedom.
