Laviolette's resume aligns perfectly with this objective. He led the Carolina Hurricanes to a Stanley Cup championship in 2006 and guided both the Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators to the Stanley Cup Final in 2010 and 2017, respectively.

Dolan praised Laviolette's accomplishments, emphasizing his status as one of the league's most respected coaches. He expressed confidence in Laviolette's ability to lead the Rangers in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup.

Laviolette's most recent coaching stint was with the Washington Capitals, where he spent three seasons. The team made the playoffs in his first two years but missed the postseason this year, leading to a mutual parting of ways.

This marks Laviolette's sixth NHL head coaching position. Interestingly, he played 12 games for the Rangers in 1988. His coaching career has included stints with the New York Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators, and Washington Capitals.

At 58, Laviolette has amassed 752 regular-season wins, placing him third among active coaches and first among American-born coaches. He trails only Lindy Ruff of the New Jersey Devils and Paul Maurice of the Florida Panthers in total wins among active coaches.
