Trump to Prioritize Executive Orders on Gender and Diversity Initiatives

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Upon his return to the presidency, Donald Trump plans to swiftly implement a series of executive orders, focusing on federal diversity and transgender policies. These initial actions, announced by officials, will be among the first of over 200 orders Trump intends to sign within his first 24 hours in office.

One order seeks to "safeguard women from gender ideology extremism and reinstate biological truth within the federal government." This entails formally recognizing only two sexes, male and female, based on reproductive function, and replacing references to "gender" with "sex" for federal employees. The administration also plans to reverse the Biden administration's policy of offering an "X" gender option on passports, ensuring that official documents accurately reflect sex.

Further measures include halting taxpayer funding for gender-transition surgeries and revoking Biden-era guidance on preferred pronoun usage in schools. Another executive order aims to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the federal government. Officials cited examples such as the Department of Agriculture's environmental justice program, Treasury Department diversity training, and FAA diversity recruitment as programs targeted for termination. The Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management will collaborate with agencies to end these programs.

Trump's campaign heavily emphasized cultural issues and border security, and these executive orders reflect those priorities. In a separate press briefing, officials stated that Trump will also sign orders to end birthright citizenship and rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. These actions signal Trump's intention to act decisively on his agenda from the moment he is sworn in.
