South Korea's capital city is turning purple to commemorate the 10th anniversary of K-pop phenomenon BTS. Iconic landmarks such as skyscrapers, bridges, and other prominent structures across Seoul will be illuminated in the group's signature color starting Monday, June 12, 2023.

This vibrant display sets the stage for a series of online events celebrating the septet's debut in 2013. While the group is currently on hiatus, with members pursuing solo projects and fulfilling mandatory military service, the anniversary celebrations offer a moment to reflect on their global impact.

Among the buildings participating in the purple light-up are Seoul City Hall, the towering Lotte World Tower, several Han River bridges, and the architecturally striking Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). These landmarks will serve as a backdrop for fans worldwide to share their appreciation for BTS online.

Congratulatory messages for the group will also be displayed on digital screens throughout the city. Special commemorative stamps will be available for purchase at post offices starting Tuesday, adding a tangible element to the celebrations.

The two-week long festivities are expected to draw tourists to Seoul. The city has identified over a dozen locations significant to BTS's history, including concert venues and filming locations, as points of interest for visiting fans.

A highlight of the celebrations will be a live online conversation with BTS member RM, followed by a fireworks display at a Han River park on Saturday evening.

BTS initially gained immense popularity in Asia before achieving global stardom with their 2020 hit "Dynamite." This all-English track propelled them to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, marking a historic moment for K-pop. Since then, the group has performed to sold-out crowds worldwide and addressed the United Nations, backed by their devoted fan base known as the "Army."

While group activities are paused due to members commencing their military service, the anniversary celebrations offer a vibrant reminder of BTS's enduring legacy. With two members, Jin and J-Hope, already serving, the full group is anticipated to reunite around 2025 following the completion of their mandatory service obligations.
