Sen. Cassidy and RFK Jr. Clash on Vaccines Amidst HHS Nomination

Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana expressed his disagreement with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s stance on vaccinations during an interview on "Fox News Sunday." This comes as President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Kennedy for the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Cassidy, a gastroenterologist and the incoming chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, stated that while he finds common ground with Kennedy on certain issues, their views on vaccines diverge significantly. He emphasized that he considers Kennedy's position on vaccines to be inaccurate.

Although Cassidy anticipates a meeting with Kennedy, he refrained from disclosing his intended vote on the HHS nomination. A spokesperson for Cassidy clarified that the Senator prefers to discuss such matters directly with nominees before making his voting decisions public.

Kennedy declined to comment on Cassidy's remarks. However, he has previously stated his position is not to restrict access to vaccines but to ensure that individuals are well-informed about the safety, risks, and effectiveness of each vaccine.
