Rock legend and entrepreneur Sammy Hagar recently shared his Thanksgiving reflections with Fox News Digital, emphasizing gratitude for his family, well-being, and the career that enables him to support his loved ones. The former Van Halen frontman and founder of Cabo Wabo Cantina expressed a philosophy of prioritizing his own health and success as a foundation for helping others.
Hagar stressed the importance of personal well-being, stating, "If I'm not healthy, I can't do anything for anyone else." He views his thriving career as a means to provide for his family and friends, a source of deep satisfaction for the musician.
Hagar has been married to Kari Karte for almost three decades, having met at a mutual friend's birthday celebration. The couple share two daughters, Kama and Samantha, in addition to Hagar's two sons, Aaron and Andrew, from a previous marriage. Hagar attributes the longevity of his marriage, in part, to maintaining a strong physical connection.
"I want to be healthy and be able to be there for my family and friends. And so that's what I'm grateful for, is my health and my success that I can do so much for other people. It's like that feels good."
— Sammy Hagar
Hagar's son Andrew has followed in his musical footsteps, forming the band Andrew Hagar and the Midnight Suns. The proud father admitted his surprise at Andrew's musical talent, which emerged later in his life, recalling being "blown away" by his son's songwriting abilities and guitar skills.
Hagar's own musical journey began immediately after high school. After initial success as a solo artist, he joined Van Halen in 1985, replacing David Lee Roth. His tenure with the band, marked by four multi-platinum albums, ended in 1996. Despite a brief reunion in 2004, Hagar departed again later that year, leading to a period of estrangement with Eddie Van Halen. The two reconciled before Van Halen's passing in 2020, with plans for future collaborations unfortunately cut short.
Hagar shared that Van Halen had expressed a desire to continue exploring music, even considering incorporating instruments like the cello and wind instruments into his work.
