LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, who has faced scrutiny for his past association with Jeffrey Epstein, is supporting California Democrat Will Rollins' second attempt to win a congressional seat. Hoffman has contributed the maximum individual donation to Rollins' campaign, aiming to unseat Republican Rep. Ken Calvert in California's 41st district. This district is predicted to be a key battleground in the upcoming election.
Hoffman's involvement in the 2022 election cycle saw him donate substantial sums to the Welcome PAC, which subsequently spent heavily in support of Rollins. While Rollins narrowly lost the previous election, Democrats remain optimistic about his chances in 2024, given the district's voting trends in recent presidential elections.
Hoffman's connection to Epstein stems from visits to Epstein's private island and plans for further trips. Hoffman has expressed regret for his association with Epstein, acknowledging that it may have inadvertently delayed justice for Epstein's victims. He has also been a significant donor to Democratic causes and candidates, including a recent fundraiser attended by President Biden. Beyond traditional campaign contributions, Hoffman has funded other groups, some of which have engaged in controversial tactics. He has also provided financial backing for E. Jean Carroll's lawsuit against former President Donald Trump.
