Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the pro-life movement is embarking on a new chapter, marked by a significant $30 million investment facilitated through a membership-based organization. This initiative aims to bolster the movement's messaging and support services for women facing unexpected pregnancies.
Key pro-life figures, including Leonard Leo, Ray Ruddy, and Princeton Professor Robert George, announced the venture fund in a letter to major pro-life organizations. David Bereit, founder of 40 Days for Life, will chair the fund. Bereit emphasized the need to provide tangible support and resources to women, offering alternatives to abortion.

The initiative coincides with the launch of the Life Leadership Conference, a members-only coalition of influencers and philanthropists. This conference, also led by Bereit, will oversee the management of the venture fund. The group acknowledges the evolving challenges facing the pro-life movement in a post-Roe landscape, including efforts to codify abortion rights in state constitutions. Several states, including Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, and New York, have already passed such measures.

The movement recognizes the need for updated strategies to address these challenges and aims to move beyond simply delegating the issue to government actors. The Life Leadership Conference emphasizes providing genuine protection for unborn babies and practical assistance for pregnant women. Bereit described the goal as ushering in "a new era of life-saving action and culture-shaping innovation."

Abortion was a central issue in the 2024 election, with contrasting views on federal abortion access. Former Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party advocated for expanded access, while President Trump favored state-level restrictions and a more localized approach, including a proposed ban on most abortions after 15 weeks. One of Trump's initial actions was pardoning 23 pro-life protesters, many of whom were elderly, imprisoned for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act under the Biden administration.
