A devastating Christmas Eve tragedy unfolded in Sherman, Texas, claiming the life of an Oklahoma basketball coach and leaving his 8-year-old daughter missing. Will Robinson, a high school coach from Durant, Oklahoma, was traveling with his family when their SUV was overtaken by floodwaters.
On Tuesday morning, amidst heavy rainfall and rising groundwater, the family's vehicle veered off the road and into a drainage ditch. The powerful currents swept the SUV away, trapping all six family members inside. While four individuals were rescued, Robinson tragically lost his life, and his young daughter remains missing.
A multi-jurisdictional task force, including Texas Task Force 2, has been tirelessly searching a 15-mile stretch of creek downstream from the accident site. The search, utilizing canines and watercraft teams, has been hampered by hazardous conditions. Despite expanding the search area into the surrounding county, the young girl has yet to be found.
The Sherman Police Department, along with state and local agencies, are urging anyone with information to come forward. They also emphasize the dangers of driving through floodwaters, advising drivers to find alternate routes and contact authorities if needed.
