Issa Accuses Biden of Misleading Public on Hunter's Business Activities

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) has accused President Biden of misleading the American public regarding his involvement in his son Hunter Biden's business dealings. Issa criticizes the White House Counsel's office for seemingly shielding the President from answering questions on the matter. He points to what he perceives as a shift in the White House's communication strategy following the House Ways and Means Committee's release of testimony from two IRS whistleblowers. These whistleblowers alleged political influence within the Justice Department's investigation into Hunter Biden, claiming the investigation was deliberately slowed and inquiries regarding President Biden's involvement were obstructed.

Issa highlighted the White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's recent practice of directing questions about the President's involvement in his son's business to the White House Counsel's office. He argues this is a tactic to avoid direct answers. Issa notes a change in the White House's messaging, from denying any business communications between the President and Hunter Biden to stating the President was "never in business" with his son. He sees this as a significant distinction, implying an acknowledgment of communication, even if not a direct business partnership. Issa emphasizes recent reports of emails, messages, and alleged conversations that suggest the President's participation in discussions related to Hunter's business ventures. He further criticizes the White House Counsel's office for not providing answers, claiming this effectively obstructs the press from fulfilling its role. Issa asserts that the White House's narrative has shifted and accuses the President of lying about his relationship with Hunter Biden and the latter's business dealings.

The White House Counsel's Office maintains that the President was never in business with his son. President Biden himself has denied lying about communications with his son regarding these matters. Issa's accusations follow an IRS whistleblower's disclosure of a 2017 WhatsApp message where Hunter Biden allegedly pressured a Chinese business associate, invoking his father's influence. The House Ways and Means Committee released this testimony after the Justice Department announced Hunter Biden's plea deal related to tax misdemeanors and a firearm charge.
