This denial follows testimony released by the House Ways and Means Committee from two IRS whistleblowers. These whistleblowers claim officials from the Justice Department, FBI, and IRS hampered the investigation into Hunter Biden's tax affairs. They allege efforts to restrict questioning related to President Biden and suggest political influence impacted decisions, consistently favoring the president's son. One whistleblower, IRS Criminal Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley Jr., stated that decisions at each stage benefited the subject of the investigation.

Shapley, who supervised the IRS investigation, accuses the Justice Department of deliberately slowing down the process, constraining investigators' questioning, and repeatedly delaying the investigation, purportedly to avoid impacting elections. These allegations emerged shortly after the Justice Department announced Hunter Biden's plea deal involving two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax, likely avoiding prison time. He also agreed to a pretrial diversion agreement concerning a separate firearm possession charge. The Justice Department responded to the whistleblower claims by reiterating Weiss's complete authority and directing any investigation-related inquiries to his office. The White House has consistently denied President Biden's involvement in or discussions about his son's business dealings.
