Former LSU women's basketball standout Danielle Ballard has passed away at the age of 29 following a car accident in Memphis, Tennessee. The incident occurred when Ballard was struck by a vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, and while the driver remained at the scene, no charges have been filed at this time.

Ballard, a prominent figure for the LSU Tigers from 2012 to 2015, made a significant impact on the program. Notably, she was a 2015 All-SEC First-Team selection and played a key role in the Tigers' advancement to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament during her sophomore year, averaging an impressive 23.3 points and 12.3 rebounds across three tournament games. She also received SEC All-Defensive Team honors twice, during her freshman and junior seasons.

LSU expressed profound sorrow at Ballard's passing, highlighting her contributions to the program and the women's basketball community. The university described her as full of life and potential, making the tragedy even more difficult to comprehend. Over her 75-game collegiate career, Ballard averaged 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. Although she did not play during her senior year due to suspensions during her sophomore and junior years, her talent and impact on the court were undeniable. Before her college career, Ballard won a state championship at Memphis Central High School.
