In a heartwarming story of hope and love, a firefighter in Ocala, Florida, has adopted a baby girl he discovered in the station's Safe Haven Baby Box. This marks the 65th time in Colorado's history that a newborn has been given a chance at a loving family through this program.
The firefighter, who wishes to remain anonymous, was working an overnight shift in January 2023 when he heard the alarm from the Safe Haven Baby Box. Initially thinking it was a false alarm, he was astonished to find a newborn baby girl inside. The moment their eyes met, a profound connection formed, and he knew he wanted to care for her.

The firefighter and his wife had been trying to have a child for years. He immediately went to the hospital with the baby, whom they named Zoey, and inquired about adoption. He left a note explaining their situation, emphasizing their completed adoption classes and registration in Florida.

The adoption was finalized in April 2023. The firefighter expressed his belief that finding Zoey in this way was a divine intervention, helping them fulfill their dream of parenthood.

Zoey’s family hopes that by sharing their story, her birth parents will see that she is thriving in a loving home, reassured by their courageous decision.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes offer a safe and anonymous way for parents to surrender newborns. There are currently 148 such boxes across the country, and 31 infants have been surrendered through this program.
