FBI Agent Corroborates Whistleblower Claims of Interference in Hunter Biden Probe

Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

A former FBI supervisory special agent involved in the Hunter Biden investigation has validated key aspects of an IRS whistleblower's account alleging political interference by the Biden administration. This confirmation comes from House Oversight Committee Republicans, who released a statement detailing the agent's corroboration.

According to Committee Chair Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the agent revealed that both Secret Service headquarters and the Biden transition team received advance notice of a planned interview with Hunter Biden. Furthermore, on the day of the scheduled interview, federal agents were instructed to wait for Hunter Biden's call and were prevented from directly approaching him. This change in procedure resulted in IRS and FBI criminal investigators being unable to interview Hunter Biden as part of their investigation.

Comer condemned what he characterized as the Department of Justice's attempts to shield the Bidens, arguing that it demonstrates a double standard in the justice system. He pledged that the committee would persist in its pursuit of answers, transparency, and accountability for the American public.

The IRS whistleblower, Gary Shapley, and a second anonymous whistleblower who also alleges DOJ interference, testified before the panel. These whistleblowers contend that political considerations swayed decisions in the case, claiming that federal prosecutors obstructed lines of inquiry related to President Biden. They also assert that the lead U.S. attorney, David Weiss, lacked full authority to bring charges.

This testimony emerges amidst the committee's broader investigation into the Biden family's business dealings. Comer highlighted the committee's progress in uncovering the family's financial activities, including the establishment of numerous shell companies, complex transactions with foreign entities, and efforts to conceal payments and evade scrutiny.

Comer emphasized the whistleblowers' confirmation of the committee's findings and stressed the significance of their testimony, along with that of other witnesses, in exposing the potential misuse of federal law enforcement powers. This testimony is part of a joint congressional investigation involving the Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees, examining the federal probe into Hunter Biden and the potential influence of political factors on prosecutorial choices.

House Republicans are demanding the appearance of over a dozen federal officials, including Weiss, before various congressional committees for transcribed interviews. These interviews aim to address allegations of politicization and misconduct within their agencies during the protracted investigation into the president's son.

Last month, the Justice Department announced Hunter Biden's plea agreement, which is expected to avert prison time. The agreement involves guilty pleas to two misdemeanor tax charges and a firearm possession charge. Hunter Biden's initial court appearance is scheduled for July 26. The DOJ denies any political influence on the investigation, and Weiss maintains that the investigation is ongoing.
