One year after the Supreme Court's landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Democratic lawmakers voiced strong disapproval on social media, criticizing the justices and advocating for the restoration of abortion rights. Their statements coincided with pro-life celebrations in Washington, D.C., commemorating the ruling that returned abortion regulation to individual states.
Senators like Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) expressed hope for the future, highlighting the ongoing fight for reproductive freedom. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) accused the justices of abandoning their oaths and fueling extremist efforts to restrict women's bodily autonomy. He argued that the Dobbs decision has jeopardized reproductive healthcare and other established freedoms.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) called the ruling devastating for women's health and safety, emphasizing the importance of individual control over healthcare decisions. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) condemned the justices as extremists and championed Oregon's state-level abortion protections while advocating for nationwide reproductive healthcare access. He warned of a potential national abortion ban pushed by Republicans and called for continued vigilance in protecting reproductive freedom.
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) urged resistance against the Court's perceived imposition of a regressive agenda. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) shared her personal abortion experience and stressed that such decisions should remain private, involving only the individual, their doctor, and chosen confidantes. She criticized state legislatures for attempting to restrict freedoms supported by the majority of Americans.

Currently, two dozen states have enacted laws limiting abortion access, primarily to situations where the mother's life is at risk. Most of these states include exceptions for rape or incest, and several of the bans are currently facing legal challenges.
