During a House floor session on Thursday, February 6, 2025, a noteworthy exchange occurred between Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., and Rep. Sarah McBride, D-Del., the first openly transgender woman elected to Congress. When introducing McBride for a speech, Miller referred to her as "Mr. McBride."
McBride responded with "Thank you, Madam Speaker," before delivering her prepared remarks. While not directly addressing Miller's comment, the subsequent introduction of Rep. Nanette Barragán, D-Calif., saw Barragán address the speaker as "Mr. Speaker," potentially in response to the earlier incident.

McBride's office, when contacted by Fox News Digital for comment, directed them to McBride's full speech posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account. In the speech, McBride criticized the Trump administration for allegedly defunding essential services and weakening federal programs to benefit donors at the expense of working people.

Miller, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, later posted on X that she "refused to deny biological reality," asserting that gender is not open to interpretation. She stated her belief that former President Trump had "restored biological truth" in the federal government.
