President Biden's farewell address on Wednesday evening, marking the end of his political career spanning five decades, ignited a flurry of responses across social media platforms. Reactions ranged from sharp criticism to heartfelt praise, reflecting the deep political divisions in the country.
Several prominent conservatives voiced negative opinions. Congresswoman Nancy Mace questioned the president's discussion of democracy and abuse of power, given his administration's actions. Fox News host Greg Gutfeld called the address an "embarrassing end to an embarrassing term." Commentator Clay Travis criticized Biden's speaking abilities and questioned the wisdom of a potential 2024 run. Gabriella Hoffman, director at the Independent Women’s Forum, found the speech "underwhelming and divisive," arguing that Biden's policies weakened the nation and that history would judge his presidency harshly. Senator Markwayne Mullin criticized Biden for prioritizing climate change over issues like border security and economic stability. Congressman Darrell Issa accused the president of being "petty, partisan, and frankly not telling the truth." Former Democratic advisor Dan Turrentine expressed surprise at the address's somber tone, calling it "sad" and suggesting it was aimed more at the Democratic National Committee than the nation. Writer Bonchie labeled it potentially the "worst farewell speech in presidential history."

In contrast, Democrats offered positive assessments. Former President Barack Obama praised Biden's leadership during the pandemic, highlighting the economic recovery, infrastructure investments, and climate change initiatives. Commentator Harry Sisson called it the "best speech of his presidency," expressing gratitude for Biden's administration.

In his speech, Biden addressed the Israel-Hamas cease-fire, claiming credit for the deal and emphasizing his administration's role in the negotiations. He also spoke about the American dream and the principle of equality, referencing the Statue of Liberty as a symbol of the nation's ongoing pursuit of freedom and justice.
