Americans Give Trump High Marks for Keeping Campaign Promises in Second Term

A recent CBS/YouGov poll reveals that a significant majority of Americans believe President Donald Trump is fulfilling his campaign promises during his second term. 70% of respondents agreed that Trump is doing "what he promised," compared to 30% who felt his agenda has deviated. The poll also showed a 53% overall job approval rating for the president, with 47% disapproving.

Public perception of Trump appears largely positive, with a majority of those polled describing him as tough (69%), energetic (63%), focused (60%), and effective (58%).

Regarding specific policy areas, 59% of respondents approve of Trump's immigration enforcement program, while 64% support the deployment of troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. On the Israel-Hamas conflict, Trump's handling received a 54% approval rating. However, the idea of the U.S. taking control of Gaza garnered significantly less support, with only 13% viewing it favorably.

The poll also touched on public opinion regarding Elon Musk and DOGE. 51% of respondents believe the entity should have some level of influence over government spending, while 49% believe it should not.

Trump's economic policies, particularly his approach to inflation, received more mixed reviews. 66% of respondents believe the president hasn't prioritized lowering prices enough. Opinions on tariffs also varied, with stronger support for tariffs on China (56%) compared to Mexico (44%), Europe (40%), and Canada (38%).

The CBS/YouGov poll, conducted from February 5-7, surveyed 2,175 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
