Following an unexpected root canal procedure on Sunday, President Joe Biden was forced to postpone his Monday meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. The meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, as confirmed by the White House. The President experienced tooth discomfort on Sunday, leading to the root canal and subsequent lingering pain on Monday.

According to Kevin O'Connor, the President's physician, the presidential dental team from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center conducted the initial examination and X-rays at the White House on Sunday. The root canal was deemed necessary following this assessment. O'Connor reported that the procedure was well-tolerated by the President, with no complications arising. The dental team planned to complete the root canal procedure at the White House on Monday.

At 80 years old, President Biden is the oldest president in US history. This recent health event follows a fall at the Air Force Academy graduation in June and comes several months after his physical examination in February, which was delayed due to scheduling conflicts. Following the February physical, O’Connor declared President Biden “a healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male” fully capable of carrying out his presidential duties.
